We were so fortunate to be invited to Rehoboth Beach last weekend with friends, Karina, Jason, Cameron and Emelia. Cameron and Mia have been in the same class since they were 9 mo. old and Emie and Ben will soon be in the same class in September. Cameron was so excited that Mia was coming that the week prior, he was in the Outer Banks and when his grandma took him to make a tie-dye shirt, he asked if he could make Mia one too because, "Mia likes tie-dye." (Note to Mark and Michelle- Ben likes tie-dye too). So, it was perfect that everyone had a buddy on this trip. Karina's family owns a house about two miles away from the boardwalk which was great because it was close to the beach, downtown Rehoboth and even closer to the outlet malls! We arrived in the evening on Friday and had some time to stroll along the main drag, hit up an Irish Bar and Grill for dinner and sample some beers at Dogfish Head Brewery. The kids had a great time sitting on the bench and screaming while we sampled beers. :)
The next day we headed to the beach only to find that a HUGE storm was approaching. So we stayed for about 15 min. then headed to the boardwalk and walked around for the rest of the afternoon. The rain pounded down for most of the day but that didn't stop us from eating boardwalk fries, candy and playing some vintage games.
As you can see above, the kids made out well with the games and everyone was proud to carry their loot. After lunch we headed back for naps and during a brief pause from the rain, we decided to let the kids run through the sprinklers. They loved it! Karina and Jason cooked us a delicious meal then we headed back to the boardwalk for vintage rides and ice cream. The rain must have known we were coming because it started up again. Mia and Cameron held hands walking down a very, very long boardwalk shouting, "We're going to ride the rides!!!" over and over again.
These rides were the kind of classic rides that must have been running since before Mommy and Daddy were alive. The prices weren't too bad either, at just $0.30 a ride, there was no question that we splurged and let them ride all of them (at least all the ones they were allowed to). It looked like they were on a double date as Mia always rode with Cameron and Ben always rode with Emie. We had to work quickly as a team of parents to get them in and out of each ride but it all worked out and everyone squealed with delight. In fact, Ben liked the fast fire engine so much that he almost threw a major tantrum until he realized that Daddy simply pulled him out to move him on the space rocket fighter ride. We finished off our evening with frozen custard. YUMMY!
Our last day was beautiful and sunny and since we decided to leave Sun. evening to avoid the traffic, it was nice to take our time on the beach. When we first got there, Mia was so brave and ran right into the wave you see below. But what the camera didn't capture was when she was heading back, the wave flipped her over face down in the sand. You can see by the picture to the right, that she wasn't too happy about that. Then Ben wasn't too happy about Mommy just snuggling with Mia. He had to get in on the snuggles too.
Jason has a special fishing permit which allows him to drive his car onto the beach as long as he casts a line in the water. Well, not much was biting all day but he did manage to catch one dogfish.
Kite flying was fun, sand play was messy and we all managed to avoid getting burned by the sun- all in all a perfect trip with good friends! Rehoboth is a must see spot for any who come to visit us!
