Dia de Mia Vol. 2. No. 9

As you can tell by the pictures, Mia's new favorite activity is dress up. Mia has always loved to wear beads and bracelets but this week she expanded her repertoire by adding boxes, hats and ties. She simply can't stop giggling when she walks around with something on her head.

We've had some more spotty weather, some days are cold, gray and torrential, while others are simply sunny and perfect. On perfect spring days, we've managed to play in the yard. So far, Mommy and Daddy have been able to play two games of Bocce ball. Friends, Allen, Elaine and Owen came over for a visit on Saturday. Owen brought his Radio Flyer trike and he and Mia took to the cul-de-sac to race around. Owen appeared to be the next Evel Knievel while Mia mostly just watched him zip around her. Nevertheless, they both had a great time together.

Dia de Mia Vol. 2 Nos. 7-8

We had several lovely spring days last week. The flowers are blooming and spring is finally here! Mia discovered the flowers in the backyard and even had a lesson in how to smell flowers from Daddy. She loves to dig in the dirt, points out birdies and she loves to pick up sticks in the front yard. Mia has also become the best fan at our softball games. She is learning to clap when we do well and everyone is cheering loudly, and she has several little friends that want to play with her during our games. They like her so much that they often tug at her arms and pull her this way and that. :)


We had a great trip to the National Zoo this past weekend with fellow FDA-ers and their kids. We saw the orangutans crossing the large outdoor ropes, elephants, tigers, and much more. Mia had her first run in with a small donkey and got to pet him, as well as some cute little goats. We went to see the lion and at first she didn't notice him... but after he let out a HUGE roar, she growled back at him. The best part about the zoo was that she got to try her first soft serve ice cream. With every bite, she would first frown and almost cry due to the shocking cold, but then let out a great big smile.

All good weather in D.C. must change sooner or later (usually sooner)....

When it rains... it pours! And it's been raining solid for over 24 hours now. With that being said, Mia sure loves puddle jumping. We put on her pink boots and she just splashes around like there's no better thing in the world. Not to mention, she tries to sit in the water. Since it's been raining, we've been getting a lot of reading time in. Mia sure does love it when we read to her. She will happily get a book from the shelf, walk over to one of us, and plop down in our laps. She's really learning how to turn the pages, and most of the time we actually finish the story, unlike earlier days.
We certainly are enjoying our little munchkin!

Dia de Mia Vol. 2 No. 6: Happy Birthday Grandma!

Happy Sunday Dia de Mia'ers,

And happy birthday grandma Brown! This week week was a little "return to normalcy". No one was sick, we weren't traveling, --- we just went to work and daycare and spent the rare warm day in the yard.

Mia continues elevating her verbal skills, this week adding cracker, water, and milk; in Miaese: "caca", "wawa", and "ma".

We ran into a major cache of free toys this week, both from neighbors and friends from Marlo's work. Mia loves playing with all the new musical instruments, but she especially loves playing in her new HOUSE! That's right, house. Nothing Mommy and Daddy would have ever bought, but had we seen her first reaction to it, maybe.

It's Grandma Brown's birthday today, so everyone send a shout out!

And, as we have a beautiful little girl, we often over look the the best friends we had before we got "serious": dogs. My bother Bob lost his dog Cassie this week. Cassie was one of those gentle beings that really made the world a better a place. Whether you even know it or not, we are all little worse off without her. We feel the same way about our dogs... Cleo walks and presents herself with a grace that is lacking in most humans. She's old now and we treasure every day we have her here.

Not too much new this week: a new tickle game using a string on the nose, some new words (see above), strengthening of her signs, and she's faster on her feet. We went to friend Isabel's first birthday party on Saturday and as you can see (even beyond Daddy eating too much) we had a great time
