Typical Snow Day-
We got about six inches of snow in the middle of the week and we were VERY excited to stay home and play outside in it. Mia wanted to build her first snow man and the snow was just sticky enough to make that happen. It was sunny out and rather warm and so our new friend Frosty didn't even last more than a few hours. No worries though... there's more snow in the forecast.
In between snow time, we hunkered down in the basement and Mia served us three course meals. After cooking for us in her new kitchen, Mia was built a lego tower and when we asked her what she was building she said, "I'm building a guillotine!" Let's hope it's because Madeline and the Bad Hat mentions one and not because she has some other "plan". Ben, on the other hand, just chowed down on black beans.
Blizzard 0f 2010- the local meteorologists predicted heavy snow and boy were they right! It started snowing on Friday afternoon causing most of D.C. to close early, daycare to close for the day, and created a feeling of mass hysteria. People were rushing all over to gather as many food items as they could so they'd be prepared for days of snow. While mommy was still at work, Daddy took the kids to the grocery store and stocked up on whatever was left on the shelves. YAY!
Then it snowed AND snowed AND snowed some more. Our official measure off our deck table was 25 1/2 inches. While it was amazingly beautiful, we were very fortunate to have power, heat and an occasional snow plow drive by. Friends, Pete, Erica and Lydia were not so lucky. They lost power for a couple of days causing them to move in with us. There was SO much snow that they couldn't park their car and we had to literally dig out a spot. Once that was over, we made the most of it and Mia and Lydia were in seventh heaven.
The aftermath- we spent hours upon hours of digging ourselves out. The giant pile of snow in front of our house (below) is actually our Matrix. The sledding conditions were superb and after suiting up the kids, we headed out, met some new neighbors and visited with just about everyone who was shoveling and needed a "conversation" break.
Here's little Ben warming up from his daily "ski" runs. He likes to cozy up in front of the fire and play with beanbags.

just read this today and for some reason, i am jealous. i am sure i'm crazy to say it, but ALL THAT snow looks like a lot of fun. maybe that's a credit to your writing!
we in Shanghai got snow the other day, but none stuck. and it appears that was the last blast of winter. forecast says 71 and sunny tomorrow. looks like DC was nice today too. hope all's well--blog again when u get time
